Dont let the current recession negatively affect your dental health
Share this!

Consumers have cut their spending on all things since the recession. Possibly, they are saving money to protect against an uncertain future. This reticence, towards unnecessary spending probably affects the public's interest in booking appointments with their dentist.

Some assume that if nothing hurts, then a regular visit to dentist is not an immediate priority.  Unfortunately, although this thinking is all too prevalent, it is a fallacy. The decision to put off going to the dentist, until we have tooth pain, will not usually save us money and is certainly not the best strategy to save our teeth.

Prevention and early intervention are the keys to both saving money and our teeth.  A small problem, that does not hurt, often is five to ten times less expensive to fix than a larger dental problem.  Patients can afford to pay for lots of check ups and cleanings with money saved from unnecessary root canals, extractions or implants.

True, if money is tight, some dental procedures can wait and your dentist should be responsive to their patients' finances.  A dentist should be willing to help strategize with you about dental expenditures, in a way that will help prioritize dental treatments, according your available financial situation.

Most times, regular cleanings and check ups are best if not put off. If you can not afford a crown, that your dentist has proposed, then you might ask if he can offer some sort of intermediate solution for restoring a tooth, until your finances permit making a crown.

It is never a good idea to procrastinate cleaning out cavities, after they have been diagnosed, since this tends to put a patient at greater risk for more expensive procedures, like root canals, crown or extractions.

Health is truly our most important asset and is worth more than all material things! It is best to keep ourselves healthy and whole and many dental problems can be affordably taken care of by a competent and caring dentist.

Unless you truly are having a financial crisis, do not make the mistake of delaying the care of your teeth. This would be penny wise and pound foolish! If you haven’t been to the dentist in the last twelve months, now would be a good time to visit one.
